Dear Reader,
It’s time to dive into some of the philosophical disciplines. Let’s get this journey formally started and get to learnin a lil sumthin sumthin!
Why Philosophy?
I won’t bore you (I hope…) and rewrite my intro post or the home page of the site. I will try to keep this brief.
Philosophy is the study and pursuit of fundamental truths and wisdom. It grapples with some of the questions that have been with us since we’ve had the luxury of pondering the nature of life and of the world we are part of.
It can dive into abstract contemplation, where I can get a little lost… Yet at the same time, it can equip us with necessary skills for navigating life. Bolstering our critical thinking, helping us analyze arguments, and forcing us to confront and question some long-held assumptions we may have.
The Philosophical Disciplines
Near as I can tell, philosophy is made up of several different fields and subfields. Some of the disciplines I intend to dive into include:
Logic – Reasoning and argumentation
Ethics – Morality and right vs. wrong
Aesthetics – Nature of beauty and art
Metaphysics – Nature of reality and existence
Epistemology – Knowledge and how we know it
Like infomercials from cable T.V., “but wait, there’s more!”. The “more” will have to come at a later time as part of other posts. The plan for this specific leg of the journey and for the website is as follows. It will be a 3-part format.
Part 1, Investigate a topic of interest.
Part 2, Create a webpage as a resource, to compile information on said topic of interest
Part 3, Write a blog post to introduce the topic, my thoughts on it, and the new page!
In the spirit of following my plan, I would like to introduce a new page that has been added to StoicBlog.org – Philosophical Disciplines!
The new site should provide some foreshadowing for what is to come but that is all for now. Thank you so much for you time and patience and I look forward to learning and growing with you!

If you’re interested in learning a little more about philosophy, a resource I have found beneficial is the American Philosophical Association. Here they provide a wealth of information about the field including resources for students, educators, and the general public.
Please leave a comment, and let me know what you think. Let me know how I can improve my website, writing, share topics of interest with me, etc. I would love to hear from you!
