January 2024 Reflection

Hi Reader and welcome back!

Hopefully 2024 has been kind to you thus far. Me? I have no complaints at the moment. At least, not any you want to hear. In this post, I plan on assessing my goal progress up to this point in time. In periodically assessing this, I am hoping I can adjust as needed to keep myself on task. Let’s get into it!

Goal progress so far…

To tackle this (lame fishing pun attempt), I am going to simply reiterate the goal and discuss what I did to make it happen. First:

Dedicate more time to the pursuit of building this website. Ideally this will teach me more about philosophy (and website building…) expanding my knowledge and skillset.

I have tried to work on this endeavor weekly (nights/weekends). This has been beneficial, dare I say therapeutic, as writing these posts is forcing internal dialogue and contemplation. Bridging the post topic with my own personal views and experiences. Not to mention exploring the different philosophical disciplines has exposed me to different aspects of philosophy which I am finding interesting. Checkout my post on Metaphysics for more details. Success

NEXT!

Increase my capabilities by getting on a more regimented workout routine (I am pretty casual about it now). This should help enforce discipline through other aspects of my life and will hopefully serve as a decent example for my children.

This goal started out pretty strong. Was waking up at 5:30am, hitting the gym five days a week (30-45 minutes though…) and generally feeling pretty great! That’s when it all fell apart. Last weekend, after an invigorating dance party with my girls, I woke up Monday morning with a slight twinge in my lower back and experienced pain on my commute to work. I completed my workout but the following day, my back was stiff and the pain was worse. Fast forward to today, my back is feeling much better but I missed 4 consecutive days of exercise… Not the end of the world, but I am definitely at risk of not getting back into the swing of things. Opportunity

Opportunity

And finally,

Rediscover fishing! Fishing will allow me to disconnect from technology, enjoy the outdoors, and enjoy a semi-meditative state where I can enjoy the simple act of throwing out a line and reeling her back in.

Turns out there are some startup costs associated with this (showcases lack for forethought…). I could write a bunch of fluff and provide more excuses but I’ll spare you. No progress has been made here. Rating?

Failing

Visual representation of a failing

By my estimation, that was a fairly accurate accounting of the current state of my goals up to this point.

Next Month?

Here is what I plan on doing with my goals for the following month:

One of my goals is on track (more or less) and so I will continue to dedicate some time each week to work on this website. If I am being honest with myself though, I need to dedicate more time to studying the darn topic the website is dedicated too… I plan on doing so by reading Mediations. So please join me in that and checkout my latest post!

For my second goal, this weekend I am finishing healing (I hope…) but next week, Monday I plan on getting back into it. I will start slow though so I don’t have any regrets.

That leaves fishing. I have a birthday coming up, so we will see if my family reads any of this, LOL. Really though, I plan on acquiring some gear within the coming months so I can get out to some lakes that are in my area.

Well reader, thank you for making it this far! I hope you are making the progress you were hoping to on your goals for the year. If not, I encourage you to pause and reflect on things. Identify what you did well and what could use some attention. Accept things as they are for now (no use in holding on to negative emotions) and adjust coarse as needed. Until next time!

Please leave a comment, and let me know what you think. Let me know how I can improve my website, writing, share topics of interest with me, etc. I would love to hear from you!
